A Hard Fall Poem by Raj Dronamraju

A Hard Fall

She took a hard fall
Running fast and didn't see the dead tree
Lying half-buried under leaves

She felt herself for injury
And found a hardened spot
Looked around for the cause with a sniper's precision

He tried to explain with a noticeable stammer
But she responded quickly "no, there are hard feelings"
Broken body fell onto the rocks below, limbs splayed akimbo

She sipped root beer and thought she projected strength
The soul leapfrogs truth in the most tense garden party of all time
Alone is the best plan for this quietly well maintained slavery

She took a hard fall
The solid impact on the ground made her produce a sharp gasp
It was as if it all went out of her but only temporarily

He put the young man on his knee and said
"Never marry an ambitious woman"
She rolled when she hit the ground to minimize the impact
Never love ambition on a bed of pine needles
