A Lesson In Life Poem by Alma F. Martin

A Lesson In Life

A disability, you say? - No, I don't see.
- it is only a shield in which to protect me

from those who would laugh & torture & hate
and take away from me, the gold on my plate.

Rejection, you say? - No, I don't see.
- instead, a much welcome path escaping futility.

Abuse, you say? - No, I don't see.
- it is only a lesson of how not to be.

Called me names, you say? - No, I don't see.
- only a practice in patience & humility.

Taken for granted, you say? - No, I don't see.
- the love I provide lives forever in me.

Taken advantage of, you say? - No, I don't see.
- my offerings are gifts which soon will flee

unless you change your bad ways & follow my lead
for my gifts are not given to feed your greed.

Taken, you say? - No, I don't see.
- your greed has only enlightened me

for in it is only your very soul - I now clearly see.

Cheated, you say? - No, I don't see.
- again, your greed, shown to others - a million and three.

Every gift I have given was given in love
every gift you have taken, came from above

from the Father of Light as a lesson to live
instead of taking from others - your lesson: was to give.
