A Letter To Hope Poem by Saswati Prusty

A Letter To Hope

Rating: 4.5

Dear Hope,
You slip away from my closed fist,
like the sand getting washed away from under my feet.
As I stand in the cold surf,
You walk away with all my might
And you ask me to be tough.

Dear Hope,
You stab holes in me,
Letting the life flow
Draining my mere structure,
Hollow; a farce of an existence
I stand here; empty handed,
Nothing to offer, nothing to accept.

Dear Hope,
I wake up each morning,
Only to run a rampage in all the empty spaces,
Scrounge for your fading presence,
In every shape, in every form,
Only to defeat myself into submission of your willing absence.

Dear Hope,
You are a menace.
You make me a lunatic.
You give me strength and make me weak
All at the same time,
One day it's a bright morning,
On others, history just rhymes.

Dear Hope,
Today I caught you from the corner of my eye
You sat there in pride,
Teasing me with your presence,
Propounding the power you hold,
To change my world as you please,
To come back and leave with such ease.

Dear Hope,
Today you're back but you are not here to stay
You will leave and I shall go back to my empty days
I will still write to you; like I write every day
I shall wait for you to write back, like I wait every day

As our days pass by,
one day, dear hope, you will die,
But dear hope,
In the face of your death, I will still survive.
