A Life Less Solitary Poem by Frank Letras

A Life Less Solitary

I’m not looking for great riches
Adventures or cheap thrills
I can’t say that money inspires me much
It’s just something to pay the bills.
Gambling and fast cars
Quite frankly leave me cold
Clubs, pubs and cocktail bars
Just serve to make me feel old.
Material possessions are not my thing
Is that out of the ordinary?
What I’m looking for basically is
A life less solitary.
I speak to hundreds of people a day
I visit my extended family
But when I get home at night
It’s just this computer and me.
No one to share my misfortunes
Or bask with me in my victories
The warmth of human contact
Is something that I cherish
But I’ve created a life
That excludes all these things
No debating politics or kitchen frolics
No arguments and peace offerings
My daily life has become
Very predictable and sterile
Behind this closed door
There’s no one to see me smile.
Yes, a life less solitary
Definitely appeals to me
Will 2011 bring it?
We’ll have to wait and see.
