A Light In The Dark Poem by Edward Rios

A Light In The Dark

As i sit here in the dark thinking
when or if i will ever see light again.
I prey i will be found.
I prey i will stay alive.

I was once a man with great things and
now i sit here wondering what went wrong.
I am in this space of darkness cold and alone.
I cry out for help yet i hear no response.

Is there any hope for me?
I take a breath and hold it in
thinking thought of suicide.
Should i die should i stay alive?

At that very moment
a wave of warmness hit my chest.
I look forward and see a small flame.
Is this really real?

I pull myself to my feet
and make my way toward the flame.
I reach out to touch it
and the fire does not burn.

So i grab the flame in both hands.
I sit down once again to ponder on this occurrence.
Then im struck with a revalation
that this flame does not represent fire.

Its represents life and light.
The symbol of hope.
I will be found.
I will survive.

For the darkness shall not take me.
