A Little Life In Love Poem by Aaron Marchant

A Little Life In Love

I am not an artist, but I would have liked to be
I can't claim a professorship or boast a Ph.D
I will not win an Oscar or receive the Nobel prize
My hopes of a bestselling book, may not be realised

I'm not a perfect specimen - the paragon of men
I don't have natural leadership or business acumen
I won't scale the heights of Everest or sail the seven seas
Or discover a new species or the cure for a disease

I don't drive a Ferrari and I've yet to buy a yacht
I don't possess the attributes that other men have got

But I do know what love means and the value of a friend
I understand the things that truly matter in the end
I try to keep my promises, and always pay my way
I listen interestedly to all you have to say

I'm proud to walk beside you in the supermarket aisle
and feel as rich as Croesus when you turn to me and smile
I notice when you change your hair or wear a new perfume
and still my heart leaps every time you walk into the room

And though the fancy jet set life may not be ours to share
When you need someone to hold your hand, you know I will be there

So stick around my darling, and let's shelter from the weather
We'll let the others chase the sun, whilst we stay warm together
For whatever joys I may not have, I have the joy of you
And while other men still seek their dream, my own dream has come true
