A LOOK AT LIFE 33
BY-SMRUTI RANJAN MOHANY

Allow me to groom
The heart of my heart
The way you nourish
The pupil of your eyes

Let him have a bit
Of the avenues
You so proudly and zealously
Preserve for your own

He has the same vision
The values of the larger society
Largely defined
In terms of pelf and power

But opportunities are unequal
Circumstances are different
I know he is fighting a lost battle
But he hopes against hope
And thinks still he can make it
To the top

My master
Why are you so annoyed
His only fault
He dreams high
Knowing well
He is up against all odds
The tide of life
And irony of fate

He asks
Why the world is
So unequal
And answers himself
And says
You do not know
But I know it

He says, Papa,
I am proud of you
For what you have done
The way you brought me up
On your sweat and blood
I remember all those
Toiling days and
Gloomy nights andwill
Never allow me to forget
Any of these

I have the instinct
And tenacity of purpose
To make it
The battle is not for me
For my papa
That ignites me
And pushes me forward
Hurdles will come
But nothing can stop a running stream
To reach its destination.
That day is not far away
When I will see you
At par with your master
Which you truly deserve
