A Man Today Poem by Errol Anderson

A Man Today

I met a man today
His face was filled with sorrow.
I begged for him a while to stay
But all he wanted was bread to borrow.
He'd walk a slow and painful walk
As I reached out a hand to lend.
No words were spoken but his eyes did talk.
This man who had nothing to spend.

He turned as if to wipe a tear from his face
And I knew this could be his final race.
I wanted to show how much I cared
Because there was little else we shared.
I cried a tear and hugged him dear
Thanks I heard him say.
And I knew I became a man today.
