A Mid-Morning Wondering. Poem by Gabrielle Martin

A Mid-Morning Wondering.

Rating: 4.8

If you were a lion,
would the sight of a gazelle carcass
delight or disgust you?

If I were the gazelle?

Very good play on words - I had to read it twice! Marvellous!

This poem had me rereading it a few times for the meaning to really sink in. My initial reaction was carcass, gross. But then if I were a lion, I would take pleasure in it, because it would be my meal. But then in the next stanza, we have the last hard hitting question. A complete twist on the way the reader sees the first. What I get from this poem is: If I were at a disadvantage that could benefit you, would you help me or not? My only critic is that I would remove the question mark at the end. I feel like it should be a closing statement rather than another question. (url: carandae)
