A Midnight Summer Dream Poem by Naveed Khalid

A Midnight Summer Dream

Not in a waking dream that day of so rich her charms
needest more scope of poetry that to a land of fairies abide,
bereft of every looking glass the world's eye
hath lit that canopy of a hut under the bolted sky,
beside the oak, the majestic sun at my door;
of what lies burried with thy haggard bones
from sullen earth shall raise the reality
of yore battered things upon the sand dunes
against the windowsill of heaven's high bower,
a moon-lit wedded night in silent hours
of soliloquy, goes soaring high above the dale,
the Eagle on wings, on wings shook off his head with
small minions of soring thumb impressions,
like to the lark at break of day arise, arise;
all things of beauty at thy feet are writ ashore,
of what I most desire contented least in those blessing hours
that hath past over in the twilight of such Poet in whose great mind:
that summer full of glorious days! You walked out of the barn,
past that old wooden house of mortal clay;
a loitering star still burns in haystack of woods,
above the archway, far from the maddening crowd in elevator-type passages
breaks the first light at dawn in whose tress of golden hair;
hath a laurel wreath thy myrtle crown in my bed of crimson joy.
