A Moment Of Wonder. Poem by Robert Toews

A Moment Of Wonder.

Beyond all six and past upon by cloves,
there wasn't any reason why,
the birds and raindrops came in droves,
but spring was drawing nigh.

came the time when all were gone
and I was left to memorize.
could you feel the evening dawn
and light your hungry, purple eyes?

she laughed when on her horse she stood
and wondered to the sea.
the owl who watched from the gloomy wood
was nobler than me

there hasn't yet in all the days
of pearls and kingdoms old
been eagles who have learned the ways,
of socks on timber wolves.

I mutter when I think of nights
who never fear the sun.
how can it be that all thier frights
have never yet begun?

who saw the star that fell upon
the lost and dying sword?
the mother of the saint has gone
and broke her promised word.

alas, my comrade, you must know
belief is all and lost between.
go find it in the drifts of snow
and take it to the queen!
