Robert Toews Poems

The daylight turned to black and left me here
The sun went down and wind began to blow
Never have I seen a night so clear
And never have I felt a night so cold!
...

The east goes far beyond my soul
as twelve white horses fled
had they only known my woe
of rising from the dead
...

There's a war I never finished fighting,
it haunts me still.
A war that no one won,
and no one ever will
...

Beyond all six and past upon by cloves,
there wasn't any reason why,
the birds and raindrops came in droves,
but spring was drawing nigh.
...

If only the sun had not set just beyond my hopes,
and rabbits hadn't flown away to meet thier dream.
we hired a man who claimed he knew the ropes,
and thanked the stars for early morning gleam.

Monsters Of The Night

The daylight turned to black and left me here
The sun went down and wind began to blow
Never have I seen a night so clear
And never have I felt a night so cold!

The crescent moon reflects a gleam
That casts the slightest glow upon the ground
As though I'm stuck within a vivid dream
With 'lies' and 'hate' in everything around

Surrounded here by monsters of despise
Who snarl and lunge at me to kill
I cringe beneath their fiery, beating eyes
Surviving only by the power of will

In disbelief I scream for honest truth
Desperately I ask to hear your voice
If I could see inside the heart of you
And know your own desired choice

Where is the love that you and I once new?
The passion that you had inside your heart
Twas ripped away, this awful angry crew
Has hurled a many painful dart

There are no rules in their wicked game
Save one, that I they must destroy
Their cruel blows are filled with hate and shame
And now I fall, a broken boy

And there you are, but just beyond my reach
Your shattered heart has made you cry
Torn apart by misery and grief
You've walked into a trap that makes you lie

Then when I fall, they lurk away
I'm left alone to bear the bitter cold
Once again the monsters get their way
With knuckles white, they have a wicked hold

Your drug away from what you know is right
To darkness where they change your mind
To weak you are to stand alone and fight
You follow them, I'm left behind

We'll meet again, there'll be another round
But next time dear, I won't give in
If I can pick myself up off th ground
A higher power will bring you back again
