A Moonstruck Pawn sept 8,2008

Sweet whispers stolen in the night
No tranquil dreams; melodic flights
Sleep is hollow, the song is lost
As twilight turns the fire to frost

Darkness taunts my windowpane
And plagues me with a lover's bane
Time swirls wildly through my mind
Of souls in sync, of hearts entwined

My heart can't cast the memories out
Or clear my head from clouds of doubt
And midnight dreams that won't abate
Rain teardrops on my pillowcase

The fire that raged deep in my soul
Denied of love, grows dark and cold
Still embers singe my tear stained eyes
As voices waft on moonlit sighs

Seems moonbeams keep the pilot lit
Forbidding me to call it quits
For every time I close my eyes
My soul is drowned in lullabies

Sad sweet songs of winters past
Cling to darkness, hard and fast
My heart beats fierce beneath my breast
And won't allow my soul to rest

I'm still yearning for his midnight fire
My hunger keen, my thirst is dire
I writhe each night from dusk till dawn
Forever trapped, a moonstruck pawn
