'A Paradox' Poem by Pushpinder Kaur

'A Paradox'

Rating: 5.0

A paradox

Time to me seems the biggest paradox
We want it to stay put
At the happiest hour
Never to stop…
We wish it gone
In times of trouble and never to revisit

We wish to turn the hands of the clock back
Wish we could fly back into the past
Wish we could be children again
Playing in the parents' backyard…

Wish our children never grew up
and were sleeping angelically in our laps
Or trailing us as adorable toddlers
Wish…time would pause

But what if it did?
What if the sun never set?
And it was bright sunshine forever…
Or night never gave way
and the darkness prevailed forever…

It is a blessing that time runs on
For Time to stand still would
be a status quo unbearable
Equivalent to death…
The hands of the clock to stop-
A nightmare
