Well this is true in part I've heard; but somehow readers and poets seem to be finding one another. One problem is that this site is full of writers; and so by default they are always writing, not reading. But I like to read others for the inspiration which I always need. Plus I think that one living poet I can commune with is worth ten in the bush, lol.
