A Plea For Respite Poem by Dr John Celes

A Plea For Respite

O God of mercy, love and immense pow’r!
Rain down your compassion and healing show’r
On suffering souls, caught in the jaws of death,
Awaiting reprieve or a funeral wreath.

You will not give us strife or mortal curse;
You will not forsake nor abandon us;
Life’s cup of bitterness appears too much;
If ’tis your will, permit your healing touch.

Bestow your grace and heal this suffering frame;
We accept dying is part of life’s game;
Let one more miracle happen again;
Postpone the end with your divine grace-rain!

A soul in pleaful prayer begs respite;
Open your heart of kindness, send your light;
You know what’s best for every soul on earth;
If your wish be, then take this soul to mirth.
