A Poem Concerning Someone To Whom I Have Given A Book Of Poetry

Saturday morning, December 17,2022

Look, I don't need you anymore than
you need me; I can take you or leave
you as the case may be. It all depends
upon how you treat me and I you
in person, in the present, and not
in absentia, in the abstract, and not
how we think of and about the other
when alone, in our private moments.
And don't get me wrong; I think we'll
of you most of the time; it's just those
other times when I watch you "perform"
that I lose all interest in you personally.
