What makes a poem, a poem?
To be hailed and recognized with diadem.
Is it the rhyme that makes the ends a beautiful tandem?
Is it the rhythm that creates a melody as of an anthem?
But if so, what about the free verse poem?
Are they lesser for they are out of rhyme and rhythm?
Maybe not.
Well it's not.
And it should be not.
Is it the figures of speech that the poet is using?
Like comparing things, telling indirectly it's meaning?
With the use of 'as' and 'like' is a simile
Or a metaphor to compare things directly
May be not.
Well it's not.
And it should be not
Is it about the imagery?
A beautiful writing strategy.
Is it because of the poet's flowery words?
And the rhymes, sounding like musical chords.
Maybe not.
Well it's not.
And it should be not.
So what is it?
Maybe...
Something deeper.
Think...
A little bit harder.
The body and the spirit,
The poem and the poet.
Some poems, stand out.
Whilst writers, left out.
Poems raised with nobility and popularity
Their poets, infamous, hiding in anonymity
And so today's mission,
Is raising poets into recognition
Line and stanza
Rhyme and rhythm
The speech's figures
Like similes and metaphors
Literary devices
Deep meaning and analysis
The iamb and the meter
Are all nothing without the writer
A poem
Is a poem
Because the poet
Made it.
