A Poisoned Chalice (A Sonnet) Poem by John Thorkild Ellison

A Poisoned Chalice (A Sonnet)

Please don't pretend to apologise!
Wipe those crocodile tears from your eyes!
You spread your legs for those other guys
And I'm just the one that you despise!
It's me that's the victim of your lies
And you're so innocent, surprise, surprise! !
You've led me quite a merry dance
And looking back I didn't stand a chance,
You must have thought that I was blind
Being 'so sensitive and kind'.
I was a fool in my infatuation
And, no doubt, I deserve this humiliation,
Hoping, of course, you'll rot in hell
And all your faithless lovers as well! !
