A Priest's Wedding Blessing For A Friend On Her Birthday Poem by Andrew Dabar

A Priest's Wedding Blessing For A Friend On Her Birthday

Here you are at forty-two
How much remains of you?
After the divorce
And a scarlet romance
Tour de force?
Having discovered
That
God and the Devil don't dance
In the beginning
Posse non pecarre
After the fall
Non posse non pecarre
One day we pray
Non posse pecarre
No guilt to carry
Close your beautiful eyes
In the middle of your life
Wish to be born again
With one single breath
Extinguish every candle of those condemning years
Through sad and happy tears
Watch birthday smoke ascend like prayer
Holy
Up up up into the air
All the way to the Cross
Forgiven
Begin again
At Pretty Place Chapel
He wants to meet you there
On the mount of transfiguration
Put on a blinding white dress
No shame
A new name
Kiss him with cake on your breath
And stay true
