A Realisation Poem by Chandrani Dutta Das

A Realisation

On some fine day when the sun goes down,
The birds fly back to their homes
to their little ones, waiting eagerly
for their return.

They had missed their mother entire day
spent hours peeping their little heads
out of their nests to look out with hopes
of their mother's return.

And there is a little bird among them,
who though knows that her mother would
never come back, yet peeps out
as usual with hopes.

But how long would that hope last, a
hope that is falsely built and it is
not that the dreamer does not know about it
yet keeps dreaming.

Perhaps she loved the dream world
which though false, was beautiful
and feared to live the reality.

Her hope was the sun, that rose with
every day to sleep
With the dusk and rise again at
the next dawn.

Or her hopes were the clouds, which
floated with the wind, never having
dreamt to end in a shower.

And one day she realized, her hopes
were but bubbles, born to burst
with no trace to remain.

And then she realized she had
to learn a lot, have to learn to fly,
to look for food, learn to survive.

Life is perhaps a blend and the thorny
days have come and she saw the
people she knew turn and fly away
Leaving her alone to herself.

She realized how lonely she was in this
big world, which till that day appeared
rosy and now felt thorny.
