A Relief For Those Without Shoes Poem by Doris Cornago

A Relief For Those Without Shoes

Rating: 4.0

Around me are the volcanic cones of Ijen
Merapi on the northeastern edge of the
Plateau and Raung on the southwest
An island so small and full
Of volcanoes, yet life
Feels so easy
as sulphur
is what preserves
Life; found in every
Cell of the body, hair,
skin and nails, ointment
For every ailment, as sulfur
Gives relief for eye problems,
inflammation of the cornea, burning,
Blephitis, conjuctivitis, in fact almost
All that takes its toll on those without shoes

POET'S NOTES ABOUT THE POEM
People are appointed for their proper places on earth. We see them better adapted where they are closer to nature, not suffering from depression or any mental ailment. The answer for this maybe gratitude - the lack or presence of it. The tranquility of the lake is reflected on the tranquility of the sulfur gatherers as they go about what city folks may term as irksome, rugged, unimaginable manual tasks.
