A Richer Man Poem by Way Lenn

A Richer Man

Rating: 5.0

You returned a
Richer man than
When you left,
Emerging from your
Youthful self
And weren’t the
The green hills trapped
For long moments
In your gaze.
Such villages are
Like flowers, beautiful,
The talk of city and
Chance come as if
Bees to pollinate.
You went East on
A dream, dragging
The carcasses of memories
Eaten to the bone,
Waiting for more, a
Hunger to satisfy.
This small island
Hugged you from
The inside out.
Out of these new
Meeting houses you
Grew, your life
Amongst stone.
On from this, long
After your body shed
Its duty, you return home.
We are six-strong,
Your family, now a brace.
We wheel you out on
Manufactured movement,
To the back and
The hills, now once more
In your gaze,
And you’re a richer
Man than you were before.
