A Sailors Dream Poem by Gordon Smith

A Sailors Dream

Well, time will surly tell, when this rough sea swell

which rises up to heaven, and sinks down to hell,

will eventually calm down from the ill winds of the past,

giving way to the gentle breeze of a love that will last.

many times my vessel attempts to sail across this uncharted sea,

Many miles out, beyond the point of non-return,

The sea can be so calm, so beautiful, but as any sailor does learn

What you see may not last, as you plot your way.

Blue sky, gentle winds, can suddenly give way to a rough squall, and you loose your way

Holding on to the compass marks that are true,

Is the only way to make it through.

Turning into the wind, ridding out the thundering sea,

Determined not to become a sunken casualty

Some times your life passes before your eyes,

Then you blink and realize,

That you are still here and alive and the rudder is still in your hand

As you dream again of the dry land

Your heart remembers the days, the loves. the pleasures,

The face of the one that you deeply treasure.

The one special woman that you are sailing toward,

You can feel her beside you, touching, sensing reaching forward....

Crash! comes the water across your face as you again wake up from your dream

You are back, battling the rough sea, and praying to reach your destiny.

Oh, God please guide me so that safe harbor, seemingly so far away,

Please make it now, make it today

I am tired of the saltwater, and of the unpredictable weather

I long to be in her safe harbor

If only it was safe today, lift the fog and storm away

let it please come my way..

As I hold here against the wind, and the rain,

I so want the peace again

I know that it is still there, the dry land and the open arms

In a world devoid of all the storms harms

safe in your wanting arms...oh my lady of the sea,

One day, when you can be who you want to be

will the ship no longer sail

and storms will not prevail

But peace will be the topic of the day

And together from the hard-ships we will together walk away...
