A Scream Within The Tunnel (Trapped) - Poem by Vision Ghost

Awoken in the blackness, and the stink of putrescence
I remember absolutely nothing, I am the only presence
So dark and I am blind, to my slimy surrounds so tight
I can barely move, within this confined space of night

Seems tunnel shaped, that my once clean fingers trace
How did I get here, and where the hell is this place?
I hear a sound of rushing, something coming closer
Something rising at my feet, the water, getting higher

A scurrying creature bolts past, must have been a rat
This is where I am, a refuse of vomit, excrement and fat
A sewer for everything, humanely wasted down here
The water is rising and my heart begins to feel, the fear

Stagger in the direction, my body takes me to somewhere
I have to get out of here; the water is rising, not much air
Feet slipping on the ground, hands unable to grip the wall
Loosing my breath in the panic of survival, I nearly fall

Endless walking turns, to staggered run in the blackness
Reaching out for something, stench returns the darkness
The water is past my thighs, need to keep moving ahead
Clothes are heavy and sodden, stumbling as I try to tread

The gagging in my throat and I wretch with the scum
Of floating human debris, the discord of human crumb
The water above my thighs, something touches my leg
Horror as a human hand rests against me, I pray, I beg

I have to get out of here; the water is rising higher now
Seemingly infinite length; this tunnels stretches somehow
Why am I here, how did I get here, tears within my eyes
My impending drowning, is all that I can now realise

Passing my neck the water is rising; soon I will be under
Reaching for salvation, that cannot be found, far yonder
The water is above my face, breath is stolen in my fear
One thing I know in the darkness; I have to get out of here

I have to get out of here
