A Singer Of Dreams Poem by Edwina Reizer

A Singer Of Dreams

I am a singer of dreams
In the night that tells the stories
Of people’s lives.
They’re all about those
Who are stored up in my memory.
They are about babies, children
Husbands and wives.
I sing about children
Singing out songs.
I sing about parents,
Short on patience
Who only see wrongs.
I sing about babies
Who love lullabies.
I sing about mothers
Up in the night
To soothe their cries.
I sing about fathers
Working all day
With their kids
Waiting for them to play
And forget about
Work and bringing home the pay.

We’re all dream singers
Wherever we go.
Some dream of livin’.
Some dream of dyin’
Some say “I don’t dream.”
They must be lyin’.
For without dreams
That sing in the night.
All we have left
Is diminished sight.
