A Sojourner Poem by Hannington Mumo

A Sojourner

For long I stayed forlorn
Wondering why so intricate is this earthly stay
Till a heavenly revelation on me began to dawn;
That this was but an ephemeral stay
And that for me is built a resplendent mansion
In the yon skies, and the Savior knew the way.

I recalled His promise of many centuries ago
That trouble on earth I must have,
But mine should be a cheer good
For His grace shall in all this preserve,
And not a single hair of mine shall
Suffer any devastation at all!

Though mystery my vision does clog,
To Him all things are plain and known;
The tomorrow’s darkness that threatens
To me shall be a chance for an only option;
To believe and trust in His might.

On earth I’ll remain a mere sojourner;
Ever loyally carrying the Victor’s banner
Until my feeble labors cease
And breath flies out of my anxious soul
To that happy unknowable eternal bliss!
