A Soldier In War Face Poem by Kinyua Karanja

A Soldier In War Face

Air saturated with smoke and dust;
Loud bangs erupts as bombs burst,
We runs for cover fearing the worst.
Panic was everyone's reaction at first;
Tremors opened cracks on the crust,
Causing hysterical shouts and screams.

Dozens of armoured jeeps goes on flame,
Some wrecked down from body to frame.
Huge, ragged, beast looking tanks came;
Covered with leaves, no flag and no name.
Then men in combat fatigue seemed same;
Mercenaries, men blamed for war crime.

They knew we were covering war news,
Wild and mad on our stands and views;
General called all journalists and crews.
Time to roll a historical live interviews,
A report to garner the best reviews;
A disaster about to erupts and no clues.

Military helicopters buzzed overhead,
Emergency of the army stung with dread;
Setting turned chaotic as the guns lead.
In a matter of no time fatality spread;
The able rebels retreated some left dead,
But we were captured before we fled.

My agent cover was already blown,
To face death or horrors unknown;
But my patriotic duty never to disown,
Not even for the safety of my own.
Sober state of mind in pain and moan;
God to give unbreaking heart of stone.
