A Soldier's Plight! Poem by Robert Edgar Burns

A Soldier's Plight!

Pick yourself up and be a man
You are a soldier, you know you can! .
Forget the pain and grit your teeth.
Life isn’t meant to be lived with ease!
Square up your shoulders while
You march toward the fight.
Only trust the person who is
Marching by your side.
If you can take cover.
Be sneaky when you hide.
Don’t fear what lies before you.
Hold on tightly to your pride.

The enemy can’t defeat you.
He may only slow you down.
He may have a strong fortress.
But you’ll decimate his town.
It’s a house of pain we live in,
Filled with blood and sweat.
Because of tortured moments,
It is a house you won’t forget.
Forget the tears and hurt now.
Concentrate on what is real.
If you lose the fight before you,
You’ll fall on their Cold Steel!

Keep eyes pealed and your head low.
Try to never make a sound.
For in the midst of battle,
You don’t ever want to be found.
If you pray to God for comfort,
Do it under your muffled breath.
Block out memories of your loved ones,
In these times it is what’s best.
Focus on what lies ahead now,
If you want to pass this test!
I dream in vivid colors,
Most days and every night!
Overlook the screams your hearing,
For it is a Soldier’s Plight!
