A Soldier's Story Poem by Joyce Hemsley

A Soldier's Story

They chose a lovely sunny day
a day with azure sky
to picnic on the upland way
and say a sad goodbye.
Then at a cool and lonely place
they sat beside a stream
and in the quiet of the hour
recalled love's magic theme.

Beneath a shady woodland tree
the tree where first they met
many endless tears were shed
before the sun was set.
And later in the dead of night
when the moon shone in its glory,
stolen moments came to an end
the finale of a soldier's story.
