A Song For Mary Long Poem by Francis Duggan

A Song For Mary Long

Her children were my friends when I was young boy
More than forty years ago how time does fly
And now I dedicate this simple song
To the memory of Jer's wife Mary Long.

She embraced all that's good in human life
A good mother and a devoted wife
And she always lived in hope for future day
The good times are coming Mary used to say.

Good memories of Mary Long I retain
I never ever heard her once complain
She enjoyed life and sought no sympathy
And worked so hard to raise her family.

Her husband Jer died back in eighty three
And Mary went to live with her daughter near Tralee
She turned the key on river side cottage door
And the Longs not in Annagloor any more.

Her children were my friends when I was young boy
Some forty years ago how time does fly
And now I dedicate this simple song
To the memory of Jer's wife Mary Long.
