A Song For My Sonu Poem by Namita Rani Panda

A Song For My Sonu

O' my dear, don't fear
I'm here, come closer
My Sonu Monu, all are asleep
Only the nocturnal freely wander
The pitch-dark night peeps through the window
The dogs chasing and barking intermittently bow bow
My Golu Molu, don't fear
Come closer, I'm here
The tired toads resting amidst the reeds
While the sleek serpent sliding through the weeds
The scarred moon peeping through the trees
The wild wolves howl and roam free
The ghost hanging from the neem tree like a bat
The owl with her owlets out of her nest
My Cutie Sweety, don't fear
Come closer, I'm here
The witch prowls in search of a baby
Her ember eyes are as red as ruby
She sucks blood with a long straw
Her hands have sharp nails like paws
Tender flesh she ever relishes
Little babies she always searches
She bites and chews to bits
Without pity of least
O' my dear, don't fear
come closer, I'm here
She'll snatch you away
Tear your flesh
Suck your blood
And bite you to bits
