A Squirrel Fence Poem by Marilyn Lott

A Squirrel Fence

Rating: 5.0

I once had a home I loved so much
With a fence made of sturdy cedar rails
It was rustic but very charming
Just linked together with some nails

I could look out of my picture window
And watch as the squirrels ran
Across the fence in excitement
Ah yes, they were such a busy clan

They teased and annoyed my Poodles
Chattered and dropped on the dogs heads
Shells from nuts that they gathered
As their babies lay warm in their beds

I found them quite entertaining
I smiled as they went about their day
Stuffing their pouches with nuts
Scurrying off to put winter food away

Those days are gone now, you see
For my life is in a different chapter
But from time to time I remember
And in my mind their antics I capture!
