A Tale Of Jam Poem by Rachael Flint

A Tale Of Jam

A friend of mine,
Asked if I had the time
To put together a rhyme
Even if only one line.

I replied, 'I'd love to,
It will be just for you,
But the topic, give me a clue! '
So I let her choose.

Her eyes lit with glee,
'Well if it's for me, '
She said, 'then I do decree
Jam is what the topic should be! '

So I took my pen and pad
To a quiet corner, there I sat.
For a while I felt rather mad,
The strangest commission I've ever had!

I thought about jam,
Images of scones, sitting with my nan,
Of sandwiches, of toast! Oh, I am a fan,
My love for jam is no sham!

I thought for an hour,
Every word in my power.
I looked in the mirror,
I had a cold shower.

When I returned,
I found my efforts had earned
A poem deserving to be burned!
Oh, when would I learn?

But here it is,
Not exactly poem bliss,
A bit hit and miss
But a tale I cherish
