A Tari Poem by Raj Dronamraju

A Tari

As if your voice came from the very depths of the ocean
Rather than the kitchen and I am in the living room
Feeling uneasy and shy and warm to the touch
Fathoms down in the deepest part of suspended attraction

You made deviled ham sandwiches, it was a friendly gesture
Then we did separate things together in the same room
Cacophonous noises from outside and cacophonous noises from inside undulate between in serpentine disorder

Praise invaders who march in lock step
To be picked off but sheer numbers is the stratagem
Cannon fodder for the win

I throw myself in visions bolder than life
In front of your querulous footsteps
Will you step over? Will you stamp on a body? Will you kneel down and caress a brow?

Or will we sit here playing video games
In parallel mental states
I gave away my credibility
To play video games in unsatisfied silence
