A Terrible Fate Poem by Justin Baird

A Terrible Fate

My Hera, my Antigone, my Helen of Troy
Has stolen the heart of this young headstrong boy
Her skin that sparkled in the bright sky of May
Convinced me now to seize the day

The poets may write
And the singers may sing
But none have seen beauty like I have seen
To love another so pure and so true
Not even my soul worth more than you

But here at the end I have missed my chance
And I stare into the void lost in an empty trance
The clock has struck and the hour too late
No stopping now this change of fate

Did I disappoint you?
Did I not seize the day?
Should I have fortified and stood my ground?
Should I have seized the day?

These questions matter not now like fragments of a dream
A horrible night terror of crushed steel and harsh screams
Passed away in your golden age a terrible fate in your prime
I only I had one day more, just a little more time
