A Thousand Versions Poem by Lacie Hebert

A Thousand Versions

A thousand versions of me died
Between the years I've lived alive.
The child who thought the world was fair.
The teen who thought nobody cared.

The dreamer chasing distant skies.
The fool believing every lie.
The lover. The fighter. The one afraid.
The one who learned and still remained.

People speak of death as though
It only happens once below.
But every life contains a truth:
We bury pieces of our youth.

And every ending, large or small,
Makes room for who survives it all.
