A Three Part Entreaty Poem by Ruth L. Rivers

A Three Part Entreaty

You men with your bullets, your bombs and your shells
You men who needlessly turn Earth into some kind of Hell
With your bottomless greed, your power, and your wealth
Please stop, just stop, just wait, just give instead of take

You men with your loves, your desires and your schemes
You men who no longer have wisdom nor an eye for peace
With your fantastic plans, your anger, and your so called needs
Please stop, just stop, just rest before nothing else is left

You men with your secrets, your lies, and your fears
You men who are alive around us yet can not seem to hear
With your horrible cost, your weapons and your emotionless tears
Please stop, just stop, just breathe, please silence your screams

I live, I am here
I breathe and believe
I wait for a time
When no one feels fear

I love, I can stay
I walk through life
I am in one hope
For children to play

I laugh, I will be
I cling to each hour
I hold onto someday
That all will be free

Tomorrow is the today of our children
Our hope, our future
Today is the foundation of their past
Their before, their beginning
Yesterday was the future of all men before
All encompassed, all new
Then, is at last, our fundamental core

Bombs were the beginning of the very end
Our loss, our destruction
Anger is the rampant disease infecting all
They’re gone, they’re dieing
Fear was the key unlocking Pandora’s box
All destroyed, all lose
Then, we will fall, form angry men and rocks

Hope is the need of every nation and people
Our air, our heartbeat
Love is the desire in each being and breath
Their life, their freedom
Peace was the yearning ember of every generation
All desired, all truth
Evil, stop the death, futile killings between nations
