A Tired Afternoon Holding Each Other - Poem by Michael P. McParland
An early good afternoon to you my sweet one
and what a day it has been with frustrations
around every little bend it seems.
I so wish you were here to just sit back on the couch with
and snuggle away this afternoon so I didn't
have to really move and continue fumbling around
dropping things on myself and spilling things everywhere.
I even dropped half of my lunch in the trash.
One of those days where I want and need my love
to just hold me close rubbing my face and head
quietly giving me soothing words that would also
take away this feeling of being a grumpy old man.
See you just smiled because we know that's
exactly just how I can be.
I wouldn't be yelling at all my dear I assure you and promise,
I'm grumbling at myself for being so clumsy.
It's just a tired afternoon I want to spend with you
my beautiful Angel and Queen.
Say a prayer for me love that my balance and brain will
clear and straighten out and because I am in pain
from dropping stuff and the arthritis is bad
the pharmacy will give me my pain pills today.
They are ready right now but you know how doctors
and pharmacy's are,
it's always some little hang up of course.
Either way my sweet one it will all be okay
because I feel you near with all of your love
and it is giving me strength to make it through.
I thank you sweet one and love you with all that I am,
I am sending you all of my loving warmth as well.
How I wish we were snuggling so I could personally
give you these loving kisses.
Oh my sweet one how I wish on this tired snowy
afternoon I could be sitting here snuggling with you.
I just bought two movies digitally to stream
but they're both very scary and I know you wouldn't like them,
I would buy us a movie that you loved that we could
enjoy together laughing, smiling, crying if it was that way,
no matter what a quiet afternoon with my diamond in the rough.
I so love you sweet Kira and wish that I could
just sit here and so closely hold you.
Feel me there with you and remember I'm always beside you
and in spirit with me spend a tired afternoon
holding each other and sweetly kissing.
