A Voice Silenced Poem by Sneha Kumar

A Voice Silenced

Rating: 5.0

Mother, why do Dad and Grand mom taunt me for being a girl?
At you and me, abuses they hurl!

Why do they say I have to die?
I am all the more frightened, when I hear you cry.

With each passing day, the brawl is getting traumatic
Inside your womb, I cringe in fear, tremble, and panic.

…but Mother, I too want to come into this beautiful world.
Your open arms, the blue skies are waiting for me, I am told.

My eyes open to the first sunshine; my tiny body withers in pain.
In the street, next to the trash bin, I am lain.

The dogs feast on me and the ants too!
Tell me what my fault is, for I have no clue.

Mutilated lies my body and soul
Silent tears, the gnawing grief, none to console.

Good Bye Mother, I am going back to God.
On my quick return, he is going to pry and prod.

Pray, tell me mother, what shall I say?
