A Warning. Poem by Tara Schley

A Warning.

Rating: 5.0

He invited her to a dance.
She decided to give him a chance.
'That's the beautiful girl I'm going to marry.'
He said while sauntering past a dimly lit cemetery.

A raven sat listening.
His feathers glistening.
The raven called out a warning.
'Stay of the same mind in the morning! '

They were married on a Tuesday afternoon,
In a park under a blue sky with a waxen full-moon.
'I will love you forever.'
'I will leave you never.'

A raven sat listening
His feathers glistening.
The raven called out a warning,
'Stay of the same mind in the morning! '

Their fight lasted into the night.
Past when it started to get light.
She cried on their bed.
'We will get through this, ' he said.

A raven sat listening.
His feathers glistening.
The raven called out a warning.
'Stay of the same mind in the morning! '

'We are old now, ' he said
'Soon one of us will be dead.'
Her face soft wrinkles, her head silvery haired.
'We'll be together for an eternity, ' she declared.

A raven sat listening.
His feathers glistening.
The raven called out a warning,
'Stay of the same mind in the morning! '

He buried her on a gloomy Sunday in the frozen clay.
Death is the price for life that we all must pay.
At her gravestone he knelt down on his knees to pray.
A raven sat watching - then flew away.
