A Week Has Passed... Poem by Effie Yalena Steyn

A Week Has Passed...

Rating: 4.8

In company so divine
It does not pay to pine
for more of your precious time.
Nothing could happen anyway.

When the sun rose like Hemingway said it would
And the bullfight bullfight ended
That day was splendid.

When my bracelet shook with Roman coins
Of Latin lessons I once enjoyed
And the steep hills of my mind
Were open, on a balcony, to find.
That day did shine.

When the sea lapped and lipped
And on Red Bull I tripped
Into the memory arms of another
I heard you look and I felt you shudder.

And when I said goodbye
Stupidly, I could not meet your eye
And all those words on my tongue all week
I could not bring myself to speak
Of incessant twists in fate and hate
And tireless establishment dictate
I could not bring to fizzing lips
A desire and a Birthday wish
To have it all again.
