A Woman's Guile Poem by Sundeep Goswami

A Woman's Guile

Gossamer skin, bedazzling smile,
Sensuous beauty, exotic and wild.
Heightening our senses, beleaguering the mind,
A constant distraction, the bane of our lives.

So tempting, alluring;
A poison, a need.
Destructive, explosive,
A thought we won't heed.

These sirens, beguiling,
With just secretive smiles;
Ensnaring, enslaving,
An enigma we can't surmise.

Be tender, be trusting,
But be cautious too.
Seduction, sedation,
An art they construed.

This wondrous creature,
This demonic vice,
These double edged swords,
The women in our lives.

POET'S NOTES ABOUT THE POEM
Our Additional English teacher had set us the task of submitting poetry for our class internal assessment. A friend of mine had written a really bitter (albeit extremely heartfelt) poem portraying women to be alarmingly manipulative and evil. Putting the excessive bias aside, his artistic touch inspired me (he writes really well) .

I wrote this poem in less than 3 minutes, maybe just over. Poetry has always been that way for me; when I get the sudden urge to write, it pours forth fairly easily. The wondrous mechanism that our brain is, I guess it stored this bit and today I was made to put down my thoughts regarding the matter. I hope everyone who reads it enjoys it. I surprised myself; hopefully I can strike a chord in your heart. Thanks for taking the time to read, cheers!
