A Writer's Best Friend Poem by Allen Steble The Philosophical Poet

A Writer's Best Friend

Rating: 5.0

The two were meant for each other
For alcohol removes
fear of judgement
It allows one to be
unapologetically creative
Almost anywhere else it is considered detrimental and irresponsible
Driving vehicles under the influence
Causes accidents, injury and death
A drunk accountant can lose a company millions of dollars
An intoxicated lawyer can acquit a guilty man or sentence
an innocent one
An alcoholic doctor could amputate the wrong arm
But a writer often does his best work while intoxicated
on fine booze
Words spoken on whiskey seem to flow better off the tongue
-They break the shackles of blind compliance to a hectic world
-They free the soul to explore
new ideas
and create new experiences
-They are more raw, real and true
Because they are spoken
without fear
Without hesitation they come out and become
a monument of excellence
