A Year To Rememberemember Poem by Bethel Chidubem

A Year To Rememberemember

It started as a year of hope and excitement, then it became a year of pain; it was a year of betrayal; it was a year of disinterest; it was a year of learning, it was a year of ignorance; it was a year of science, it was a year of arts; it was a year of carelessness;

It was a year of shocks; it was a year of mercy, it was a year of ruthlessness; it was a year of clubbing, it was a year of solitude; it was a year of adventure, it was a year of zero-exploit; it was a year of spirituality, it was a year of religiosity; it was a year of peace, it was a year of war, it was a year of piquancy, it was a year of charmlessness; it was a year of fashion, it was a year of troglodytes;

It was a year of deep agony; it was a year of departure; it was a year of deception, it was a year of scarcity; it was a year of depression; it was a year of grief; it was a year of rain, it was a year of aridity; it was a year of thunder, it was a year of tranquility; it was a year of oneness, it was a year of discrimination;

It was a year of love, it was a year of hate; it was a year of change, it was a year of stagnation; it was a year of safety, it was a year of accidents; it was a year of freedom, it was a year of reliance, it was a year of life, it was a year of death; it was feminine honour, it was a year of rape; it was a year of weddings,

It was a year of reflection; it was a year of theism, it was a year of atheism; that dead year favoured and ruined the human race, it equally set the time for the age Man will reason in transcendentally mystical way.

We must not feel the losses more than we cherish the gains, though the gains weren't superfluous for us as the equitable hope we deserve. But we will stand here in the valley-crevice of the mountain of our confidence, hoping the scales will balance us in this New year to float better as we approach our private essence against the rolling ball of the joint existence.

A beautiful New Year to everyone who gets to it at different hours of the day. May your profits and losses cross paths with surprising purposes. I believe in you, those of you now addicted to the idea of magnifying Mankind.
