Abandoned Poem by G. Akanji Olaniyi

Abandoned

There came the cry
A cry!
It was instantaneous at the start
Then it came short and regular
It continued and was not stopping
That ignited the concern
The crowd began to gather
Gathered, they did; but action, they did not take
A brave one came forward, albeit hesitantly
He saw the carton where the cry came from
They all saw it
He also had a fear
They all had the fear
He tried to open it
They all surged forward as if they wanted to help him
They never did, their arms were held back
The cry did not seize
He opened it
It was a baby! ! !
Then, the crowd startled
She was abandoned
The cry became louder
Her face had turned reddish
She looked pale and hurt
She must had been there for a while
With nobody in sight for her
Who would take her?
