Abandoned Poem by Suzanne Hayasaki

Abandoned

Where do you go off to
When you know that I need you?
What calls you away for days
When you know that I sit and wait?
What make you so restless
When you know you are all I long to possess?

Does my single-minded pursuit
Intimidate you?
Do I push you away
Every time I ask you to stay?
Is it really so unmanning
To be the passive object of a woman’s passion?

If I wrote you yet another love poem
Would you send it back unopened?
If I managed to arrange for our paths to cross
Would you hurry away with more excuses?

Would I be so much more attractive
If I feigned indifference and waited?
Would you feel so much more virile
If you could have things your way?

Well, I’m sorry that I cannot play that game.
I suppose I prefer to be the predator and not the prey.
But haven’t you ever wondered what it would be like
To be held captive by a woman as captivating as I?
