According To Darwin Poem by Francis Duggan

According To Darwin

According to Darwin our ancestors came down off of the trees
And like most other mammals we are subject to fleas
And we can host deadly viruses that can give rise to disease
And spread around our germs each time we cough and sneeze
The majority of religious people with Darwin's theory disagree
In talk of the origin of the species only evil they do see
Darwin's theory of evolution to them is blasphemy
And a great insult to God the creator and to humanity
Was Darwin right in his theory I do not profess to know
That from pre-historic mammals our ancestors into human beings did grow
Old Darwin was a clever bloke to give the man his due
And what you think of his theory I'll leave that up to you
That some of my long dead ancestors eat fruit and nuts upon a tree
Does not seem at all insulting at least not so to me.
