Acrimony Poem by Marcquiese Burrell

Acrimony

Rating: 5.0

I was strong and at times I've played weak
It's how you've charmed me off my feet
And what came knocking at the door
was quite the package
But It was I who was to carry
the heavy baggage.
I'd be revived by the electricity
of a defibrillator
saved from total damage.
You saw I was vulnerable
And would take full advantage
You were full of promises
I expected you to keep
When you did the opposite
I would fall into a well, six foot deep
I didn't know if your intentions were good
I couldn't see what my heart misunderstood
something aroused my intuition
You got me deep in my suspicion
And i just couldn't ignore
the nagging feeling in my gut
So I would follow where it leads
All roads have led to you
Doing the unforgivable
Every time the outcome is predictable
It's always the sorry, baby,
It didn't mean a thing
As if playing the violin
Only my heart were the strings.
Why is it every time we relinquish
What's so valuable to be undervalued?
Maybe none of it matters,
when all that should matter
is the love that is present
Least that's what we all convince ourselves
I've let the whispers in my ear
Influence much of my decisions
And I would harbor
bitter feelings of Resentment
When I couldn't see the light
at the end of the tunnel
Life dug a hole and I'd grab the shovel
Love is dead, I've put it to rest.
I couldn't digest, what I would detest
Once your life turned around
My heart would be bound
Anchored to all the promises
You have made to me
I've put love on silent
But it wouldn't stay repressed
Becoming inescapably obsessed
There a shift in my joy happened
What I've seen, I can't imagine
it wouldn't escape my mind
I've clung onto those four letter words
my hunger was then fueled by a thieving bird
How can you give away the life meant for me?
Why did you not fight for us?
How could you put a ring on another to marry
Your broken promises created this jealousy
I can promise you this one thing
I'm going make you miserable
The remainder of your life
Let you feel the pain
You would deliver unto me
