Afraid To Dream? Poem by Willem VanVoorthuysen

Afraid To Dream?

Deep in our hearts and minds persist
unmentionables that in our waking hours
are safely hid behind dark veils of privacy,
hung there to shield our image from ourselves..

We have them all and cover them the best we can,
our fears and hopes, desires and expectations,
our jealousy and distrust, our greed and lust,
and things we do not even want to think of...

But, in our dreams, we often do not seem to care
about our public image, pride, or self esteem.
or things we should not do or say to friends,
or even total strangers...

How can we keep the lid on this satanic cauldron,
which may boil over anytime we sleep,
and burn our self-respect and conscience,
long after such bad dreams have passed?

The answer, my dear friends, is quite simple:
ask Jesus Christ before you fall asleep
to let His Holy Spirit mercifully guide
your lost, subconscious mind...
